The role of HR in digital transformation

Marketing Digital

For a while we have been hearing buzz words like Big Data, Machine Learning, the Internet of Things…. There are many terms that refer to the technology era and the digitalization process we are experiencing.

Businesses have to adapt to this new era, but ... What does digital transformation mean for business? What does an enterprise need in order to accomplish such a transformation? Can the HR department spearhead the digital transformation of a business?

Why should my company undergo digital transformation?

It is a fact that many people dread the changes currently underway in the market. But what if we think about what industrialization was like back in the nineteenth century?

There were many changes in terms of rural exodus and consumption habits. It was surely difficult to imagine the benefits that such changes would entail in the future. Still, everyone managed to adjust, and many took advantage of it.

Today, we are more aware of the customer and how it is the customer who will determine the success of our products. We start by putting the customer at the center of our business operations. This means that our biggest modern-day challenge lies in improving customer experience, and this is where digitalization is on our side.

So, how do we go about taking the first step?

HR, the first button to activate in the digital transformation process

We must clearly have the necessary technology to achieve this transformation. In Human Resources it is imperative to have special human resources software that will help you effectively manage talent as well as optimize your plans and strategies based on data.

Training your employees to adapt and develop is the basis for any digital transformation.

The same applies to other departments, which will have tools to digitize their processes. But none of these tools are useful if they are not also operated digitally.

Which is why the HR department must be the first to become aware of this and start a company’s digital transformation plan. Training your employees to adapt and develop is the basis for any digital transformation.

Help your employees to conquer their fear of change

Many employees will see this change as a threat: “the machines will take over our jobs”, “I won’t be able to adjust”, “it’s going to be very difficult” …

You will have to weigh in the digital skills of new employees, but not everything needs to involve hiring new staff. Rather, it is more about channeling the talent your business already has and developing it.

It is more about channeling the talent your business already has and developing it.

This is why it is important to create an integration plan, starting with transparency and revealing the advantages of the transformation – not only for the company but also for your employees, as professionals. It is also essential to inform the different teams about where their department is headed in terms of digitalization and what the next steps will be.

We must also include strategies to improve “soft skills” that will allow employees to know themselves better and see all the growth possibilities that lie ahead of them.

Evolve or disappear

Many businesses get left behind because they are unable to adapt to change. This applies to processes, but especially – and most importantly – to people.

Your employees must adapt at the same speed as the market changes.

Develop a training plan that focuses on the changes in processes and technology in such a way that your employees will continuously remain up-to-date. Technologies, concepts, and strategies change rapidly, and your employees must adapt at the same speed so that business does not lag behind.

There is no turning back

New, major technologies and the digitalization of businesses are here to stay. Take charge and make sure that the Human Resources department implements this digital transformation. This way, your company will be able to adapt to the new digital era, achieve its goals and aspire to success.
