Chief Architect

Job Level

Can you lift us into the public cloud?

An innovative HR and payroll software developer with over 1,100 employees, including 300 IT colleagues across 40+ Scrum/Agile teams. And proud cosponsor of a cycling team that won multiple stages in the Tour de France this year. That’s Visma|Raet in a nutshell. But we are also a company in transition. E.g. into the public cloud. Do you have the architectural skills to help us get lift off?

As our Chief Architect

you are a highly visible and influential presence. You are the architectural conscience of the Product Development Director, to whom you report, a member of the management team and head of the architecture board. Key responsibilities include the usual suspects, ranging from developing and promoting a scalable architectural vision and strategy, and conducting high-level risk assessment and impact analyses, to safeguarding our architecture governance and compliance, including non-functional requirements.

Because we are transitioning into the public cloud, we would welcome a Chief Architect who can not only conceptualize the future architecture, but also gain traction for his/her vision. Someone who can drive innovation, knows what it takes to guide and steer product management, by translating the product strategy into solution concepts, models, and designs that not only inspire the team of lead, software and system architects, but also commit them. And someone who can repeat that ‘trick’ at the highest management levels. The challenges include translating the business and product strategy into an architecture strategy coherent with the overall architecture vision, ensuring that your strategy gets executed, and leading the transition from private cloud (hosting applications) to the public cloud and adopting PaaS.

This is what you bring to the table

Creativity: it’s imperative that you can come up with creative solutions to complex challenges. Coming up with solutions is only one part of the equation though. In order to effect change, you’ll also need to demonstrate the value of your strategies and help us effectively execute them. Persuasive powers and strong stakeholder management skills are essential, since you have to get (and keep) directors, managers, peers, partners, developers and customers (both experts and non-experts) on board.

Must haves

  • 15+ years of experience in software development
  • Roughly 10 years of software architecture experience, 5 years in a leading position
  • Proven track record in designing software for scalable, multi-tenant, high-performance business applications
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud architecture principles, patterns and practices
  • Adapt at development methods, methodologies and processes as well as software operations
  • Affinity with ERP Business software
  • As Visma|Raet is a subsidiary of Visma with development centers across Europe for example in Madrid, Kosice and Riga, we expect you to visit those locations to collaborate with the developers to get the best architecture in place
